Wednesday star Jenna Ortega gains over 10 million Instagram followers after record-breaking release

Netflix’s Wednesday was a smash hit with more than 50 million households streaming 341.23 million hours of the comedy horror series in its first week on the streamer! With these impressive numbers, it comes as no surprise that the amazingly talented leading star, Jenna Ortega, has seen a significant increase in her follower count on Instagram.

Wednesday is a Netflix original series created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. It’s based on the reserved and methodical character, Wednesday Addams, from The Addams Family and follows Wednesday’s years as a student at Nevermore Academy.

While attending the supernatural institute, Wednesday attempts to hone her psychic ability but finds herself trying to stop a killing spree and solve the supernatural mystery her parents were entangled in over two decades ago.

Besides Ortega, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Fred Armisen, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, and many others are in the cast.

As the Netflix series that holds the record for most hours viewed in a week for an English-language series, the success has begun to trickle down to its cast. More specifically, Jenna Ortega.

You might recognize Ortega from other shows and films like Insidious: Chapter 2, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, The Fallout, Scream, X, Stuck in the Middle and You. With so many shows and movies under her belt, Ortega had already gained tons of followers on her various social media accounts. However, she’s seen her Instagram following increase the most after the release of Wednesday.

According to the media and news site Pop Crave, Jenna Ortega gained over 10 million followers on Instagram in the 10 days following the comedy horror’s release on Netflix. On the day of Wednesday‘s release, Ortega had about 9.39 million followers. On Dec. 4, the rising star had over 20 million followers on Instagram. As of Dec. 5, Ortega has 21.8 million followers and counting.

Ortega’s follower count is increasing daily, and she’ll probably see another massive influx of people following her if Wednesday gets renewed for a second season, which is looking very likely.
