Blood and Water returned with its third season on Netflix on Nov. 25, and chances are you’ve binged your way through the entire season in one sitting. Now, you’re left wondering if there will be a fourth installment of the teen series. Luckily, you’ve arrived at the right place because we shared all that we know about a potential Blood and Water season 4.
Blood and Water remains one of Netflix’s top South African series. The first season premiered in May 2020, followed by a second season in September 2021. After another successful season, Netflix renewed the show for a third season back in April 2022. Then, seven months later, Blood and Water season 3 was released, and it didn’t take long at all for most people to make their way through the short six-episode season.
Honestly, people can’t get enough of the teen crime drama because of the mystery, twists and turns, shocking cliffhangers, juicy drama, love triangles, angst, romance, and amazingly gifted cast. They don’t want to see the show end just yet, and that’s totally understandable.
So, will there be a Blood and Water season 4? Here’s what we know.
Is Blood and Water season 4 happening?
At the time of writing (Nov. 28), it’s unknown if a fourth season is in the works. Unfortunately, Netflix did not hand out an early renewal for the teen series. However, this was somewhat expected since the streamer hasn’t done this for the show in the past.
Since the third season recently premiered, it’ll most likely be a while before Netflix decides whether it wants to renew or cancel the show. It typically takes about a month or so for Netflix to come to a decision.
The streamer’s decision mostly comes down to viewership numbers. After Netflix tallies up how many people watched the third season in a certain time frame, this number will determine whether or not they want to renew or pull the plug. The first 28 days of a show’s release are very important to Netflix. So, if a lot of people watch Blood and Water season 3 in the first four weeks of its release, Netflix might just give the go-ahead for a fourth season.
Of course, other factors play a part in Netflix’s decision, but high viewership numbers will help the show’s chances of renewal tremendously. Also, it’s important that you watch the third season from beginning to end. The six-episode season must be watched in its entirety for it to count.
We recommend telling everyone you know about Blood and Water and getting them to watch the third season. With how things ended in Blood and Water season 3, we definitely need a continuation of the story.
We’ll keep you updated on the renewal status, so stay tuned to Netflix Life!
