6 best Netflix shows to watch (and 3 to skip) in December 2022
By Reed Gaudens
The end of the year is almost here, but there are still so many binge-worthy Netflix shows making their way to our watch lists in December 2022. Between fan-favorites making long-awaited returns and newcomers making splashy debuts, there’s something for everyone.
Firefly Lane and Alice in Borderland make a triumphant comeback with their respective second seasons after lengthy hiatuses, while Emily in Paris arrives with an annual new season of laughs, love triangles, and enviable fashion.
But are all of December’s new Netflix shows worth watching? That’s the question we ask each month as we help Netflix watchers decide what they should add to their watch list without question and what they could probably save for a rainy day.
Best Netflix shows December 2022
Here are six of the best Netflix shows you can’t miss in December 2022 and three you can skip if they aren’t already on your radar. Let’s begin below with the romantic drama that fans have been waiting for since last spring, Firefly Lane season 2 part 1.
Firefly Lane season 2 part 1
Watch! It’s been over nearly years since Firefly Lane premiered on Netflix, and the upcoming second (and final) season will be a must-watch. Netflix will release the super-sized final season in two batches, with the first arriving on Dec. 2. Don’t miss Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke’s grand return to your watch list as Tully and Kate in Firefly Lane season 2 part 1.
Emily in Paris season 3
Watch! Emily in Paris returns with the highly anticipated third season, which finds the titular characters making some big decisions about her personal and professional lives. Will she keep her job in Paris or go home to Chicago? Will she choose Alfie or continue to fight for Gabriel? Find out all of the answers when Emily in Paris season 3 premieres on Dec. 21!
Too Hot to Handle season 4
Skip! If you’ve watched the first three seasons of Netflix’s dating competition series Too Hot to Handle, then you know the deal. But if you’re not already on board with the series, then you probably don’t need to rush to put this one on your watch list. Either way, the fourth season of the hit series makes its premiere on Dec. 7.
The Recruit
Watch! The fact that Noah Centineo is the lead of The Recruit makes the new spy thriller series a definite must-watch. Centineo plays newbie CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, and based on the trailer, the series looks like a thrill ride that also leans into Centineo’s charms as a leading man. Don’t miss all eight episodes of the first season when they drop on Dec. 16.
The Witcher: Blood Origin
Watch! Although some fans of The Witcher might feel a little sour about Henry Cavill leaving the series after the upcoming third season, there’s a lot to look forward with the prequel arriving in December. Michelle Yeoh stars in the The Witcher: Blood Origin, which is a four-episode prequel series set 1200 years before the events of The Witcher. It’s a can’t-miss even for loyal fans of the franchise, and it all begins on Christmas Day.
Dance Monsters
Skip! It’s a little bit The Masked Singer, a little bit Alter Ego, and a little bit Sexy Beasts. Put them all together and you get Dance Monsters, Netflix’s new dance competition series where dancers are disguised by CGI avatars and looking to take home the $250,000 grand prize. If you’re into reality competition series, Dance Monsters is for you. If not, feel free to skip this one on Dec. 16.
Alice in Borderland season 2
Watch! It’s been two years since Netflix released the first season of the Japanese sci-fi thriller Alice in Borderland, but it’s finally time for fans to behold the highly anticipated second season. The new season finds the allies competing in more dangerous games to solve the mystery of Borderland and return to their own world. The exciting new episodes arrive on Dec. 22.
Dragon Age: Absolution
Watch! Over the past few months, the anime offerings have been rather light. But December changes that with the eagerly awaited release of Dragon Age: Absolution. The series features new characters and stories inspired by Dragon Age lore, and it’s sure to be a huge hit for all fans of the series. Add all six episodes to your watch list when they release on Dec. 9.
My Unorthodox Life season 2
Skip! Last summer, Netflix released the reality series My Unorthodox Life, which centers on Julia Haart. She fled her ultra-Orthodox Jewish community and built a new life for herself. The second season covers her personal and professional changes, including leaving her company as CEO and divorcing her husband. If you haven’t already watched, then you can probably skip season 2 on Dec. 2.
