Netflix’s new teen drama Wednesday is finally streaming. The series follows the titular character of the Addams Family played by Jenna Ortega as she’s sent away to Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts. There, she meets other black sheep like herself and a variety of different creatures like werewolves, sirens, and more. Though Wednesday isn’t happy about her new school, she soon learns about an important prophecy and has a mystery to solve.

Wednesday consists of eight episodes and alongside Ortega in the cast is Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Gwendoline Christie as Nevermore’s headmistress Larissa Weems, and Christina Ricci as a professor named Ms. Thornhill, among others. Wednesday makes friends, enemies, and frenemies pretty quickly at the boarding school and it’s super fun to see all the special gifts her classmates have.

Minor spoilers ahead for Wednesday on Netflix.

As Wednesday’s roommate Enid (Emma Myers) explains when she shows her around Nevermore, there are four main cliques of outcasts enrolled at the school. That includes Fangs, Furs, Stoners, and Scales. When their classmate Ajax (Georgie Farmer) shows up, Enid tells Wednesday that “Gorgons spend way too much time getting stoned.” What does that mean exactly?

What kind of creature is Ajax in Wednesday?

Ajax is a character we see more of in Wednesday, as he strikes up a romance with Enid. He’s a creature called a Gorgon, which comes from Greek mythology. Medusa, for example, is a well-known Gorgon. Though there have been different iterations of the monster throughout literature, what’s typically seen is that a Gorgon has living snakes as hair that can turn others into stone. That’s the case with Ajax in Wednesday.

When Ajax and Enid begin getting close in episode 3, he tells her that Gorgons are told not to get involved with others because they can accidentally stone people. Despite that, they plan for a date later that night but Ajax stands Enid up. That’s because, as we see, he accidentally turns himself into stone when seeing his reflection in the bathroom mirror. He apologizes to Enid later on in the show and admits he was too embarrassed to tell her what really happened.

Wednesday is a super fun show and we’re crossing our fingers for a season 2 renewal soon!
