Is there going to be a Vikings: Valhalla season 2 coming to Netflix? Keep reading to find out more!

It’s hard to imagine anyone expecting The History Channel’s first scripted series to be a massive hit, but that is exactly what happened. After six successful seasons garnering a robust fan base, a spin-off in the form of Vikings: Valhalla has made its way to the shores of the popular streaming service, ready to do battle with the competition.

The historical drama takes place a century after the events of Vikings, which saw the sons of Ragnarok set sail with the Great Viking army to invade England to avenge their father toward the end. The Netflix series highlights the end of the Viking Age, marked primarily by the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066.

Since its release on Feb. 25, 2022, Vikings: Valhalla has been watched for 80.56 million hours in its first week and has received an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes. It is no wonder why so many are wanting to know more about season 2.

Is Vikings: Valhalla based on a book?

Before the future of the show is revealed, let’s clarify any confusion regarding the origins of the program. No, Vikings: Valhalla is not based on any book. As previously stated, the show is actually a spin-off of the hit History Channel series Vikings that aired from 2013 all the way to 2020.

Is Vikings: Valhalla season 2 coming to Netflix?

Yes, Vikings: Valhalla season 2 is happening at Netflix. When it was first announced that the spin-off series was headed for the streaming powerhouse, it was revealed that 24 episodes had been ordered.

The news led to some confusion as seasons of Vikings were known to have 20 entries. But it seems that Netflix has a lot of confidence this series can go the distance. The first season released eight episodes which means there are 16 left, which will inevitably have eight more of these chapters make up Vikings: Valhalla season 2.

Then on March 9, 2022, it was officially announced that Vikings: Valhalla will be getting a second and third season. The well-crafted series has made quite an impact fast, and it will be interesting to see what happens in the next outing.

How many episodes will make up Vikings: Valhalla season 2?

As previously mentioned, the streamer ordered 24 entries of the Vikings spin-off. Eight of them premiered as part of the first run of episodes. Out of the 16 left, it is presumed that eight of them will make up Vikings: Valhalla season 2.

Directors for the second season of Vikings: Valhalla include BAFTA-winning filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev, who also directed the first entry of season 1. Also at the helm is Hannah Quinn and Steve Saint Leger, with the latter having previously directed episodes of Vikings.

The first eight iterations have done very well, and subscribers seem to really be enjoying what the series has to offer. There is no doubt that all of the episodes of Vikings: Valhalla season 2 will continue to entertain fans in the same way, if not better, than the well-received debut.

Is Vikings: Vallhalla season 2 filming?

The revelation that Vikings: Valhalla is not only getting a second iteration but a third season as well is nothing short of amazing. But as far as shooting goes, the news gets even better.

According to What’s on Netflix, Caroline Simonnet posted that filming of season 2 had wrapped on Nov. 2, 2021. Several pictures were posted during the production of the Netflix series’ second outing. Visit Wicklow posted a great shot.

What will happen in Vikings: Valhalla season 2?

Everyone who enjoyed the first set of episodes is most assuredly extremely eager to know what will go down in Vikings: Valhalla season 2.

It’s easy to speculate what could happen, like Leif going into full Erik the Red mode in the next outing, giving fans more exhilarating action in Vikings: Valhalla season 2. Another story thread people will want to see play out is how Harald will endure moving forward after barely surviving the first set of episodes.

In addition, Freydis must come to terms with being the one that will save the Viking people, a heavy burden that will be intriguing to see play out next time around. And then there is Emma and Godwin’s attempts in England to deter any kind of payback from Ælfgifu, while also keeping vigilant of the threatening region of Mercia, among other things, that will also probably be a highlight of the second season.
