This isn’t really surprising, seeing as though the show is created by the creative duo Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar. You might recognize them as the creators of the critically acclaimed Netflix series Dark. 1899 follows a group of European immigrants traveling from Europe to America in search of better opportunities. But their voyage is interrupted when they discover another ship that’s been missing for four months drifting on the open sea. After they step foot on the lost ship, they quickly find themselves entangled in a mysterious riddle that seemingly has no end.

The gifted cast consists of mostly European actors, such as Emily Beecham, Aneurin Barnard, Andreas Pietschmann, Miguel Bernardeau, Maciej Musiał, Anton Lesser, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, and many others.

The 1899 theme is a brooding cover of the hit song by singer-songwriter, Eliot Sumner. However, it was created by Ben Frost and Sumner.
