Teletubbies is coming back to television screens and computers near you. The kids’ show from the late 1990s and early 2000s is the latest reboot that will fill ’90s kids with infinite nostalgia. The show is hitting Netflix on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022.

When the show originally aired, it almost immediately became popular but the popularity also came with controversy. It all started with the fact that Tinky Winky (the purple Teletubby) carried a handbag. This led to evangelical leader and conservative activist Jerry Fallwell to call Tinky Winky “a gay role model.

The character and the show were deemed dangerous for children because of this. Unfortunately, homophobia was much more accepted in the mainstream media at the time but even in the ’90s, it was clear to most people that this argument was as ridiculous as it would (hopefully) be seen today.

The new reboot will star Titus Burgess as the narrator of the show and the Teletubbies will be played by Jeremiah Krage, Nick Kellington, Rebecca Hyland, and Rachelle Beinart.

What is Netflix’s Teletubbies about?

Teletubbies follows Tinky Winky (who is still carrying his bag), Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po as they go on adventures, learn, and grow. There will be a new song in each episode and will feature The Sun, Noo-Noo, the Teletubbies vacuum, and The Tubby Phone. The show will also include Tiddlytubbies which are baby Teletubbies.

The four friends will also be shown enjoying Tubby Custard and Tubby Toast, rolling in the grass, dancing, and giving each other hugs. The first season will be 12 episodes in total.

It will be interesting to see if this show is only popular with the people who used to watch the show as kids or if pre-school-age kids will watch and enjoy the show as well. The show is definitely like no other kids’ show out there.
