Every Netflix subscriber has likely heard of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story at this point. Whether you’ve watched the show or not, there’s no way you could have missed it. As of Nov. 7, the series raked in over 934 million viewing hours since release.

The series is a fictionalized retelling of murderer and sex offender Jeffrey Dahmer’s life and the story of his victims. The serial killer murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

Some of his murders also involved necrophilia, cannibalism, and the permanent preservation of body parts. The unfortunate reason he got away with the crimes for over a decade is partly due to systemic racism and its impact on the police force.

It’s no secret the show has become a Netflix hit. And though the story came to a neat resolution, you might wonder if a second season is in store at Netflix.

How many seasons of Monster will there be?

On Nov. 7, Netflix announced that the Monster anthology series had been renewed for seasons 2 and 3, along with a renewal for fellow Ryan Murphy series The Watcher. According to Netflix, the two upcoming new series will “tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society.”

When Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was first released, it seemed unlikely that the series would be renewed since Netflix dubbed it a limited series. But that didn’t mean Ryan Murphy couldn’t turn the series into an anthology, and that’s exactly what he did.

The viewership numbers that came in from the Dahmer story are among the highest Netflix has seen. Monster was able to bring in 196.2 million viewers in its first week. The numbers are almost identical to Bridgerton season 2 and Stranger Things season 4, and the series is now the second most-popular Netflix series of all time.

Because of its success, Netflix clearly wanted to keep the same format but focus on someone else. Could it be John Wayne Gacy? The inclusion of this serial killer in Monster felt unnecessary. But perhaps his inclusion is hinting at something more. We’ll have to wait and see what happens in Monster seasons 2 and 3 as more news is announced.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is streaming now on Netflix.
