Is Dangerous Liaisons on Netflix?
By Mads Lennon
Another adaptation of the French epistolary novel Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos is starting this weekend! The iconic story has been told many times in almost every medium, including plays, movies, television shows, ballet, radio, and opera.
The latest iteration is produced by STARZ, and the premium cable channel appears confident in the show’s success as it was already renewed for a second season ahead of the series premiere. Some of the most iconic adaptations of Laclos’ story include the 1988 film starring Glenn Close and the 1998 movie Cruel Intentions starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.
STARZ’s version of the series aims to differentiate itself from some of the other adaptations by serving as a prelude to the 18th-century story, offering an origin for the main characters, amoral and passionate young lovers the Marquise de Merteuil (Alice Englert) and the Vicomte de Valmont (Nicholas Denton).
Is Dangerous Liaisons on Netflix?
No, the STARZ version of Dangerous Liaisons will not be on Netflix. However, Netflix actually released its own version of the story earlier this year in the French film of the same name starring Paola Locatelli and Simon Rérolle.
There are many other popular period dramas on Netflix, such as Persuasion, Bridgerton, The Crown, The Empress, and Versailles.
