Dark creators (Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar) are back with a new Netflix original series titled 1899, and this time around, they’re taking viewers very far back in time. But this show isn’t your average period piece. It’s a dark, mystery-horror!

After achieving much success with Dark, Jantje Friese, and Baran bo Oda decided to team up again for a new project at Netflix under their overall deal with the streamer. Development for 1899 started in 2018, and so much has happened since then.

We’re excited to see how the series will come together in the end and are expecting it to be just as successful as Dark with critics and viewers alike. The cast of 1899 showed up virtually and shared that the upcoming show will be released on November 17, 2022. So exciting!

The full-length trailer for 1899 just dropped on Oct. 24, and it proves this show is going to be creepy, confusing, and hopefully amazing! It also features the song “All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix.  Prepare to get spooked by checking out the video here:

You can watch the first teaser for 1899 below. It’s not very long and it doesn’t reveal much yet, but it does give us a better idea of what to expect from this show. I’m sure if you enjoyed the twisted narrative of Dark, this new series should be the perfect fit.

1899 synopsis

The series is set in 1899 and follows a group of European migrants leaving London and heading west to New York with hopes of a future abroad. But each passenger carries their own secrets that they don’t want to be revealed. When they come across another migrant steamship that’s been missing for quite some time, their journey takes an unexpected turn for the worse.

Here’s the official synopsis via Netflix below:

"1899. A migrant steamship heads west to leave the old continent. The passengers, a mixed bag of European origins, united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. But their journey takes an unexpected turn when they discover another migrant ship adrift on open sea. What they will find on board, will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare."
