Netflix promises that The Crown will not show the car crash that killed Princess Diana on-screen
It’s a sad point in history that is still felt today. Fans of the beautiful Princess Diana still mourn the beloved royal’s tragic and untimely loss. It’s still hard, especially for those closest to her, including her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, who are 40 and 38, respectively.
Princess Diana was only 36 years old when she died in a car crash on August 31, 1997, in Paris as the driver tried to flee the paparazzi. It’s no secret just how adored the Princess of Wales was, but unfortunately, that also meant constant paparazzi attention that got out of hand.
It’s one of the most painful moments in history, as the former royal was a beloved figure worldwide. That’s why Netflix isn’t going to be portraying the heartbreaking moment directly on-screen.
Netflix promises The Crown won’t show Princess Diana’s car crash on-screen
Coming on November 9, The Crown season 5 is set to debut its ten episodes. We’re going to see the continued heightened tensions between Diana and Charles. But it’s not until the sixth and final season that the death of the beautiful royal will, unfortunately, come into play.
To the relief of many, the car crash that killed Princess Diana will not be shown on-screen, according to the Daily News. The series will allude to the tragic event instead. Netflix shared the following statement with the news outlet:
"[Season 6] will not depict the crash, contrary to some reports. It will be scenes covering the lead up to, and [the] aftermath."
Season 5 will see Queen Elizabeth as she approaches the 40th anniversary of her accession, according to Netflix. There is trouble around the world but also challenges at home. The main one is Prince Charles pressuring his mother to allow him to divorce Diana, which could have consequences for the monarchy.
The Crown season 5 premieres Wednesday, November 9, on Netflix.
