What is Notre-Dame about?

In April 2019, a devastating fire broke out at the famed and iconic Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, France. Unfortunately, even though the firefighters tried their best to subdue the flames, the fire still damaged the building extensively. Now, a new Netflix limited series aptly titled Notre-Dame will tell the story of the Paris firefighters who fought tooth and nail to keep the fire from consuming more of the city.

Film director Hervé Hadmar created this emotionally resonant French television drama. Hadmar also wrote the scripts for the show. Rated TV-MA for substances, language, and smoking, Notre-Dame might not be suitable for anyone under 17.

Notre-Dame plot synopsis

The limited series follows the many men and women affected by the Notre-Dame fire on that fateful night in 2019. Mostly, the series focuses on the firefighters who tried to prevent the flames from spreading beyond the hallowed walls of the cathedral.

"The series takes place during the night that Notre-Dame burned. It’s about the destiny of men and women who have their own fire to put out. As the Paris firefighters try to stop the flames from spreading in the Cathedral, the show also follows characters being put through the wringer – they will have to fight each other, love each other, come across each other, hate each other, smile at or help each other – so that, in the end, they may have a chance to start all over again."

The show has six episodes total, and each is almost a full hour in length.

It looks like the series primarily takes place on the night the Notre-Dame caught on fire, but we’ll also see what happens in the aftermath and potentially the lead-up. Throughout the show’s six episodes, strangers will be drawn together inexplicably as they learn to support and help one another through this devastating event.
