Does Sophie die in The School for Good and Evil? (spoilers)

The wait is over. Everyone can finally watch The School for Good and Evil on Netflix! It follows two unlikely best friends, Sophie and Agatha, who find themselves at odds after being taken to an enchanted school where future fairytale heroes and villains are trained. But Sophie seemed to be gravely injured at one point in the film. Does Sophie meet her end? Find out below!

Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) has always dreamed of leaving her dull life behind in Gavaldon to become a princess, so when Mrs. Deauville tells her that a magical school called the School for Good and Evil exists, she sees this as her opportunity to get out of dodge. But Sophie’s best friend Agatha (Sofia Wylie) loves her friend dearly and would rather live a simple life with her than venture out of Gavaldon. One night under a blood-red moon, Sophie and Agatha are picked up by a giant bird that takes them to the School for Good and Evil. But as they arrive at the magical school, something goes wrong. Sophie is dropped at the School for Evil and Agatha at the School for Good.

Throughout the film, Sophie is met by Rafal, the former ruler of the School for Evil. He was believed to have disappeared after his epic battle with his brother Rhian many years ago. As Sophie tries to figure out a way to get to the School for Good, Rafal convinces her to stop being nice and instead do whatever she wants to get her way. He even turns her against Agatha and gives her blood magic. However, we find out later that Rafal had been disguising himself as Rhian (the school master) to hide his true intent of destroying the balance between Good and Evil from within.

At the end of the film, Rafal reveals to Sophie that he brought her to the magical school because he believes she’s his true love, and with an evil kiss, they will be able to open the gates to Never After and rule. Sophie accepts the evil kiss, and then both schools start to tear down with every person within their walls dying. Sophie is shocked by what’s happening and realizes that she’s been duped by Rafal. Suddenly, Agatha appears to stop Rafal and Rafal tries to kill her by commanding the Storian to attack her. But then Sophie jumps in front of Agatha to protect her and is pierced in the chest with the magical pen. Does Sophie survive her injuries?

Does Sophie die in The School for Good and Evil?

Fortunately, Sophie does not die in the film. Once Sophie is wounded by the Storian, she falls to the ground and removes the pen from her chest. While Rafal panics because both schools are restored, and the students and faculty have come back to life, Agatha cradles Sophie in her arms. Then, Tedros appears and tries to defeat Rafal with Excalibur but fails. As Rafal is about to kill Tedros, Sophie commands the sword to go to Agatha and Agatha stabs Rafal, ultimately killing him.

Agatha then runs to Sophie, and they share an intimate moment before Sophie closes her eyes. Agatha panics and tries to get Sophie to wake up, but her eyes remain closed. Then, Agatha kisses Sophie. As Agatha lies her head on Sophie’s chest, she notices that Sophie’s heart is beating again and the blood on her dress has dried up. Suddenly, Sophie awakens and tells Agatha that it’s time for them to go home.

So, the true love kiss between the two friends is what awakened and saved Sophie. It also sets Agatha and Sophie free and opens a portal back to Gavaldon.
