Lady Chatterley’s Lover release date, cast, synopsis, and more
By Renee Hansen
Netflix is ready to bring more steam to your screen. With the popularity of Bridgerton and Sex/Life, the streamer thinks it might be on to something. Its viewers want more sex. If you ask, Netflix will deliver. Glamour has reported that one of the next adaptations will be of the explicit novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
D.H. Lawrence is the author of Lady Chatterley’s Lover that was privately published in 1928 in Italy and 1929 in France. The book was banned in the UK because of its obscene nature, but a heavily censored version was available.
In 1960 an obscenity trial was brought against Penguin Books, which the publisher won and would go on to sell 3 million copies. If you tell people they can’t read something, they are going to want to read it.
Netflix isn’t afraid to push the boundaries as we saw in Bridgerton. And with the success of that series, Lady Chatterley’s Lover is bound to become the next great release for fans of that genre.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover synopsis
The original story tells the tale of an upper-class woman, Lady Chatterley, who is married to Baronet Sir Clifford Chatterley, a wealthy landowner. Sir Clifford served in the Great War, where he suffered an injury that has caused him to be paralyzed from the waist down. He would rather read or tend to matters of his estate than spend time with his wife. His emotional neglect of his wife causes much strain in the relationship.
Needing companionship, she seeks out the handsome estate gamekeeper, Oliver Mellors, and they proceed to have a torrid love affair. She is forced to make a life-altering decision: Stay in a loveless marriage with security and social standing or leave all that for true love.
If the film follows the book, things will get pretty hot and heavy on your screen. The book was censored for its vivid descriptions of their trysts but also for the use of never before printed four-letter words. The book also looks at the class distinctions, which is very forward for the time period it was written in.
The official logline from Netflix:
"Based on the classic D.H. Lawrence novel, a story well ahead of its time, we follow the life of Lady Chatterley, a woman born to a life of wealth and privilege, who soon finds herself married to a man that she eventually falls out of love with. Lady Chatterley engages in a torrid affair with a gamekeeper on their English estate, discovering more desire and intimacy than she thought possible. When she realizes that she has fallen heart and soul, she breaks all traditions of the day and seeks happiness with the man she loves."
