When people first heard Rob Zombie was doing a movie set in The Munsters universe there was some disbelief on whether or not that would be a good idea. How could the person who made The Devil’s Rejects or House of a 1000 Corpses make a family-friendly horror comedy movie based on a beloved sitcom?

But Zombie is an actual fan of The Munsters, so there’s still hope that his prequel film could be something special. We’ll know soon enough since the movie is coming to Netflix this week. Rob Zombie said it best himself in his Instagram post revealing the film’s official rating: “For those of you speculating, wondering and assuming that The Munsters would be dirty, violent and nasty…well, you are wrong. It’s all good down on Mockingbird Lane.”

The Munsters is rated PG, which makes sense because the original sitcom was aimed at families and was very tame with its “scary” material. The PG rating is for macabre and suggestive material, scary images, and language.

Some people feared that Zombie would take a beloved property and twist it into something gory and disturbing like the content of some of his movies, but that’s not the case. Zombie is a diehard fan of The Munsters, so why would he try to tarnish the legacy of something he loves?

Parents who watched the original sitcom and plan to enjoy the new movie with younger kids should feel confident picking The Munsters for movie night according to the PG rating.
