Is The Case Against Adnan Syed documentary on Netflix?
Out of all the well-made true crime documentaries out there, one of the most heartbreaking in recent years has to be The Case Against Adnan Syed. The four-part docuseries premiered on HBO in 2019 and shed light on the case, along with Syed’s ongoing appeal process. The show came out years after the Serial podcast began chronicling his story, bringing national attention to Syed’s wrongful conviction.
Those who have been following the case for years are so happy to hear the news that came out this week when Syed was officially released from prison after serving 23 years behind bars. He had been sentenced to life imprisonment plus an additional 30 years for first-degree murder after his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee was found dead in Baltimore, Maryland. Syed maintained his innocence and had fought for appeals since being admitted to prison.

If you’re seeing the headlines about Syed and are interested in learning more, I would definitely recommend watching The Case Against Adnan Syed and listening to the Serial podcast. All Serial podcast episodes can be found on their website, as well as on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. But what about the docuseries? Is that available to watch on Netflix right now?
Where to watch The Case Against Adnan Syed documentary series
Unfortunately for Netflix users, The Case Against Adnan Syed is not available on the streamer. That’s because the docuseries is an HBO original, meaning you can only watch it on HBO or HBO Max. If you have Hulu, you could also use the HBO Max add-on to watch the docuseries.
If Netflix is your only streaming service and you’re in the mood for true crime, they’ve got a lot of options. We’d recommend checking out titles like I Just Killed My Dad, Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, and Sins of Our Mother. For gripping stories of wrongful convictions, Paradise Lost and Mind Over Murder on HBO are fantastic docuseries.
