A new comedy from Black-ish creator Kenya Barris is coming to Netflix, and we don’t know about you, but we’re pretty excited, The streaming giant announced on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, that it had ordered a new scripted comedy series titled The Vince Staples Show, loosely inspired by the upbringing of rapper Vince Staples in Long Beach, California.

If you’re familiar with Vince Staples’ work, you’ll already know that in Aug. 2019, the rapper launched his own web series of the same name, however it should be noted that the Barris-Netflix creation is not affiliated with the web series and is a whole separate project.

Staples, alongside Kenya Barris, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth, and Calmatic are credited as executive producers on the show.

Recently, Barris, Edelman, and Williams joined forces to exec produce Kid Cudi’s animated Netflix series, Entergalactic — which is set to be released on the streaming giant later this month.

“I am excited to partner with Netflix and Kenya Barris on The Vince Staples Show,” the rapper shared in a statement released by Netflix. “This has been something I have been developing for some time and I am happy it’s coming to fruition.”

Netflix’s head of comedy Tracey Pakosta added:

"“It’s our mission to work with the best artists in the world, Vince has already established himself as one of the most talented young musicians today and we’re really excited about how his sensibility — and sense of humor — will translate into a unique comedy series.”"

Does The Vince Staples Show have a release date?

With only days since the announcement that Netflix ordered the new series, we don’t think you’ll be too surprised to learn that for the moment, The Vince Staples Show does not have an official release date. Currently, the show is still “in development,” meaning we’ve still got some time to wait before the upcoming comedy finds its way on our screens.

It’s likely that The Vince Staples Show could be released on Netflix sometime in 2023 or 2024, depending on how soon they begin production on the series.
