Parasyte: The Grey release updates, cast, synopsis, and more

Another live-action adaptation of the popular manga series Parasyte is officially in the works, and we have all the important details about it to share with you. It’s a Korean series titled Parasyte: The Grey, produced by Climax Studio and Wow Point and set to come to Netflix worldwide.

Parasyte: The Grey is an upcoming South Korean Netflix original series directed and co-written by Yeon Sang-ho. You might recognize Yeon Sang-ho as the director of the box office hits Train to Busan and Peninsula. He also directed the Netflix dark fantasy series Hellbound. Additionally, Ryu Yong-jae co-wrote the scripts with Yeon Sang-ho. Ryu Yong-jae is best known for writing for the crime drama series Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area.

Is Parasyte: The Grey filming?

It’s unknown at the moment. Netflix ordered the series on Aug. 22 but did not announce if it was in production yet. As of Sept. 7, it looks like the show is still in the pre-production phase. Once we receive word on a production schedule, we’ll be sure to update you.

Unfortunately, Netflix has not announced an official release date yet. We won’t likely hear of a release date announcement until the show is further in the filmmaking process. However, our best release prediction for now would be sometime in 2024. We’re expecting production and post-production to be pretty lengthy. However, there’s a chance we could see the horror series by the end of 2023. We just wouldn’t bet on it.

There have been three cast members to be announced thus far. More cast members will likely be revealed once production starts.

• Jeon So-nee as Jeong Su-in – Jeong Su-in falls victim to a parasite, and when it fails to take over her brain, she enters a bizarre coexistence with it.
• Koo Kyo-hwan as Seol Kang-woo – Seol Kang-woo tracks down parasites to find his missing sister.
• Lee Jung-hyun as Choi Jun-kyung – Choi Jun-kyung is the leader of “Team Grey,” a task force battling parasites. Having lost her husband to these invasive life-forms, she devotes herself to their demise.

"The story is about unidentified parasitic life-forms that live off of human hosts and strive to grow their power. As they start to disrupt society, a group of humans wage war against the rising evil."
