Netflix has signed some major movies and Netflix original shows in the past week, including a newly acquired Gothic horror-thriller called The Pale Blue Eye, which will star Christian Bale, according to a report from Deadline.

This sets a record for a worldwide deal at the European Film Market, where Netflix paid a whopping $55m for this deal, according to the report.

Deadline is reporting the project will be directed by Scott Cooper and will mark a reunion for Cooper and Bale. Cooper directed Hostiles in 2017, which starred Bale, who played US Army cavalry officer Capt. Joseph Blacker.

Bale recently appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder as the villain Gorr the God Butcher. He will also star in David O. Russell’s upcoming film Amsterdam.

The Pale Blue Eye release date

The Pale Blue Eye will be released in select theaters starting Dec. 23 and then it will make its Netflix debut on Jan. 6.

The Pale Blue Eye boasts an incredible cast of talented actors. Christian Bale takes the lead as Augustus Landor. A new first-look photo released by Netflix shows the actor walking through mist while holding a lantern, it’s very Gothic.

Bale will be joined by Harry Potter actor Harry Melling, who you might recognize as Dudley Dursley from the fantasy films. Melling will portray Edgar Allen Poe in the Netflix thriller. Gillian Anderson, Robert Duvall, Lucy Boynton, and more also star.

The Pale Blue Eye synopsis

Antlers director Scott Cooper is directing The Pale Blue Eye, which has been described as a passion project for the director. Cooper has been wanting to make this movie for more than a decade and it’s finally almost here!

Here’s the official logline from Netflix:

"The film is a Gothic thriller that revolves around a series of fictional murders that took place in 1830 at the United States Military Academy West Point and surrounds a young cadet the world would come to know as Edgar Allan Poe, played by Harry Melling. Christian Bale portrays retired detective Augustus Landor, tasked with investigating the murders. The Pale Blue Eye is based on Louis Bayard’s bestselling novel of the same name. Bale is producing alongside director/writer Scott Cooper, John Lesher and Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures."
