Athena on Netflix release date, cast, synopsis, and more
A new Netflix film, described as a modern Greek tragedy, is coming to the streaming service this fall. Athena is directed by Romain Gavras.
This is the filmmaker’s third feature. Gavras also serves as a producer and co-wrote the script with Ladj Ly and Elias Beldeddar. Charles-Marie Anthonioz, Mourad Belkeddar, Jean Duhamel, and Nicolas Lhermitte also serve as producers.

Athena release date
The film will make its debut Friday, Sept. 23, 2022 on Netflix. It will be released at 12 a.m. PT/ 3 a.m. ET. The movie’s total run time is 97 minutes.
Athena synopsis
Hours after the tragic death of their youngest brother in unexplained circumstances (allegedly a police altercation), three siblings have their lives thrown into chaos. French soldier Abdel is called back from the frontline to find his family torn apart. He’s caught between his younger brother Karim, who wants revenge, and his older brother Moktar’s criminal dealings.
As Abdel struggles to calm the rising tensions and the situation escalates, their community, Athena, goes under siege, becoming a scene of tragedy for both the family and beyond. The death of their brother ignites an all-out war in the community, with the boy’s three older brothers at the heart of it.
