Stranger Things season 5 is not coming to Netflix in September 2022

After a long wait for Stranger Things to return to Netflix, the hit sci-fi series finally landed on our screens in May 2022 with season 4 volume 1 and July with season 4 volume 2. The Duffer Brothers show reigned supreme on Netflix’s top 10 list for several weeks, with many binging the epic and emotionally-devastating fourth season the moment it came out, so it’s unsurprising that fans are already hungry for Stranger Things season 5.

And while fans can take comfort in that production for the fifth and final season is in full swing, if you were hoping to catch the new episodes of the sci-fi series soon, you’ll be deeply disappointed to learn that Stranger Things season 5 is not coming to Netflix in September 2022.

So when could we see the return of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the rest of the Upside Down gang? We have a rough timeline!

Does Stranger Things season 5 have a release date?

Unfortunately, at this time Stranger Things season 5 doesn’t have an official Netflix release date, but that’s likely due to the fact that production for the final season is still in its early days. Nevertheless, we still may be able to offer you a prediction as to when we could possibly see the new episodes.

At the beginning of August 2022, the Duffer Brothers confirmed that they had started writing season 5. And in a profile with British GQ, David Harbour — who portrays Jim Hopper on the show — said that filming is set to begin at some point in 2023. He also predicted that the show would return in mid-2024. While he didn’t specify exactly when filming will begin, we’re hopeful that we won’t have to wait another three years before season 5 finds its way onto our screens. In an interview with Variety, the Duffer brothers also commented:

"“Don’t hold us to it, but the gap should be quite a bit shorter this time, due to the fact that we already have an initial outline, and we can’t imagine there will be another six-month forced hiatus.”"

Of course, for a show like this, post-production will take much longer to complete, as the visual effects on the show are out of this world. So with all this in mind, we believe that at the earliest we will get Stranger Things season 5 in summer 2024. Of course, we could be wrong, so we urge you to take this prediction with a grain of salt.
