It’s finally time for fans to fall in love with our favorite Truham-Higgs students all over again. Heartstopper season 2 is coming on Aug. 3, and we’re sharing everything fans needs to know, including what time to tune it.

Heartstopper is a British teen drama based on a graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman. The teen drama is likely to attract anyone who liked To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before or Never Have I Ever. Great news! A third season is already in the works.

Starring Joe Locke and Kit Connor, the eight-episode first season follows Charlie Spring (Locke) and Nick Nelson (Connor) who become friends when they share the same class. But that friendship soon turns into something more as they spend time together. And while Charlie is openly gay (and has been bullied for it), Nick is just discovering that he may not be straight.

We’re updating this story every time we learn something new about Heartstopper season 2. The latest update was on Aug. 2, 2023.

Heartstopper season 2 release date

On April 24, Netflix announced the official Heartstopper season 2 release date. The eight-epsiode second season will make its premiere on Thursday, Aug. 3. The release date announcement came with a behind-the-scenes video of the cast teasing what fans can expect from season 2.

Previously, we’d been hoping the post-production process would be shortened to about six to eight months. This way, we would see Heartstopper season 2 in the summer of 2023. That was about the earliest we could expect to see the new season, and that’s exactly when it’s coming. As much as we wish it were sooner, it’s still coming super soon!

What time is Heartstopper season 2 coming out in the UK and Australia?

Heartstopper season 2 will be released in the UK at 8:00 a.m. BST on Thursday, Aug. 3 and in Australia at 5:00 p.m. AEST on Thursday, Aug. 3. These release times are much different than the 12 a.m. PT and 3 a.m. ET drops on Netflix in the United States, but no matter the time of day, Heartstopper fans will show up to binge-watch.

Heartstopper season 2 trailer

In July 2023, Netflix finally shared the official trailer for Heartstopper season 2. The clip gives fans a first look at what to expect from the new season, which takes the friend group to Paris for a school trip and finds Nick on a journey of coming to terms with coming out.

What is Heartstopper season 2 about?

Along with the release date announcement, Netflix also revealed a bit of new information about the season’s plot. Check out the official synopsis via Variety:

"Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship."

There were rumors that the second season will be based on volume three of the graphic novels. The first season was based on volumes one and two, so it would make sense if the second season is based on volume three. It’s been confirmed that the second season will focus on the stories from Vol. 3.

Here’s the official synopsis for volume 3 via Amazon below:

"Charlie didn’t think Nick could ever like him back, but now they’re officially boyfriends. Nick has even found the courage to come out to his mom. But coming out isn’t something that happens just once, and Nick and Charlie try to figure out when to tell their friends that they’re dating. Not being out to their classmates gets even harder during a school trip to Paris. As Nick and Charlie’s feelings get more serious, they’ll need each other more than ever."

Heartstopper season 2 filming

On Sept. 22, 2022, Netflix announced that principal photography on Heartstopper season 2 had officially started!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo1pZbwgJOE

Production Heartstopper season 2 ended in December 2022, according to What’s on Netflix. Alice Oseman shared on Instagram that production had ended.

Heartstopper season 3 is happening

Netflix renewed Heartstopper for season 3 in May 2022, which means the series received a two-season renewal and that, yes, Heartstopper season 3 is happening!

So far, we don’t know much about Heartstopper season 3 yet, but we should find out more within the next few weeks.

How many seasons of Heartstopper will there be?

There’s one season of Heartstopper on Netflix right now. There are two more seasons in the works officially. Season 2 is coming in August 2023. We haven’t heard when season 3 will be filmed, but we do know that it’s happening. Netflix already renewed the series for season 3.

It’s unclear if the third season will be the final season. Netflix didn’t announce that, but it’s definitely possible. Most Netflix teen shows don’t run longer than three or four seasons. If Alice Oseman, the creator, gets what they want, we should see four seasons of Heartstopper on Netflix.

It looks like Hearstopper if things go well, will have a four-season run on Netflix. Creator Alice Oseman told Radio Times that “four, I think, would do it,” when speaking about how many seasons of the series there could potentially be. Obviously, Netflix needs to renew the series for a fourth season, but based on how popular this show is and is becoming, there’s no doubt season 4 could happen.

Where to watch Heartstopper season 2

Heartstopper season 2 will stream exclusively on Netflix around the world on Aug. 3, 2023. Luckily, Netflix isn’t splitting up the second season as we’ve seen with The Witcher, The Lincoln Lawyer, Stranger Things, and other Netflix hits.

If you have a Netflix subscription, you can watch both seasons of Heartstopper on the streaming service in August. The first season is streaming right now.
