Heartstopper season 2 (and season 3) is in development, but while we wait for new episodes it looks like the stars are staying busy with new and exciting projects! Kit Connor, who plays Nick Nelson in the Netflix series was recently cast in the upcoming film adaptation of A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, based on the New York Times bestselling novel penned by Laura Taylor Namey, reports Deadline.

A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow is a hugely popular YA novel thanks to its compelling romance and contemporary style. Fans also flocked to the book because Namey is a proud Cuban-American and the novel features Cuban representation in the form of its protagonist, Lila Reyes and her family.

The story centers on Lila’s story after her grandmother passes away. Having spent most of her life at her Abuela’s Cuban bakery in Miami, Lila moves to Winchester to spend the summer cooking at her aunt’s inn. She finds herself charmed by the British countryside and, more specifically, a charming tea shop clerk.

Who is Kit Connor playing in A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow?

We do not know the exact roles that the lead cast will be playing yet, but we can probably assume that Kit is going to play Lila’s love interest, Orion. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin star Maia Reficco has been cast, likely as Lila and Kate del Castillo of La Reina del Sur fame has also been tapped to star in the movie.

Even though Kit is doing a new movie, don’t worry about his role in Heartstopper being reduced! Actors often do films and even other television shows between seasons. We don’t know when the next season of the Netflix series is going into production yet so I’m sure Kit’s team has handled things to ensure his filming obligations don’t interfere with his return to the show.

While details regarding Connor, del Castillo and Reficco’s exact roles have not been released, Deadline did reveal that documentary filmmaker Katherine Fairfax Wright (Call Me Kuchu) will direct, marking her narrative feature debut. Savion Einstein (Miss Conception) and Khaila Amazan (Anderson .Paak’s upcoming K-POPS!) will write the screenplay.

ACE Entertainment is set to finance and produce the feature, with production set in Yorkshire, England. Max Siemers, Matt Janzen and Aubrey Bendix are overseeing production for the company and Mark Lane is executive producing on behalf of TeaShop Films.
