It’s finally time for a new season of Locke and Key on Netflix, but fans of the hit fantasy series will be wondering if Locke and Key season 4 will be on the way after the third season’s premiere.

The series filmed its second and third seasons back-to-back, with Locke and Key season 2 premiering on Netflix in October 2021. Finally, Locke and Key season 3 arrives on Wednesday, Aug. 10 with eight brand-new episodes of the Locke family’s adventures.

But with so many Netflix shows recently being canceled (and renewed) throughout 2022 so far, will there be another season of Locke and Key to look forward to after season 3’s premiere? Here’s what fans need to know about the future of the Netflix series.

Will there be a Locke and Key season 4?

Unfortunately, Locke and Key season 4 will not be coming to Netflix. Well ahead of the third season’s premiere, the streaming service announced that the third season would be the last for Locke and Key, with the showrunners explaining why they opted to end the series.

Along with the announcement in April 2022 that season 3 would be the final season, executive producers and showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill opened up about the decision to conclude the Locke family’s story after three seasons. As they shared in a statement:

"“Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion. As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.”"

According to Cuse and Averill, a three-season run had always been part of the plan, even though there are more than three issues in the comic book series written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Gabriel Rodríguez. However, with the ending in mind, we’re sure the series ends the story in a fitting place with its eight-episode final season.
