The Sandman has finally started streaming on Netflix after decades of development and fans could not be happier. The series is already generating rave reviews from critics with a very high score on Rotten Tomatoes. If you’ve already binge-watched the first season, we can provide you with several shows like The Sandman to watch next.

Diehard fans of the dark fantasy comic book series by Neil Gaiman are already expressing their love of the Netflix adaptation on social media. With 10 full episodes of the first season now available to watch, plenty of people are going to busy with the series this weekend.

But if you finish watching it and you’re eager for something with a similar vibe, the following list should provide you with several options for things you can watch next and information on where you can stream them.

Good Omens

Neil Gaiman has a very distinct creative style, so the best thing you can do after finishing The Sandman is to go check out his other shows. The fantasy comedy series Good Omens is based on his and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel and consists of six episodes.

Starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant, the series follows an angel and a demon who form quite the unlikely pair as they attempt to stop Armageddon from happening. Good Omens is a little more lighthearted and humorous than The Sandman, but it’s definitely a good fit for those who like Gaiman’s work. A second season is also in the works.

American Gods

If the depth of mythology, biblical themes and characters, and beautiful production design are what capitvated you about The Sandman then American Gods should definitely be at the top of your list. Ricky Whittle stars as ex-convict Shadow Moon who finds himself unmoored and listless after getting out of prison and dealing with the tragic death of his wife.

He meets a charismatic man named Mr. Wednesay who offers Shadow a job as his bodyguard and their journey shows Shadow the hidden side of America where magic is real and a war is brewing between the new and old gods. Based on the fantasy novel by Neil Gaiman, American Gods is a fascinating and unique show that aired for three seasons on Starz.

However, I will warn anyone interested in watching this show that it had a very troubled production and there was a lot of behind-the-scenes drama. The first season is basically perfection but your mileage may vary with seasons 2 and 3.

Legion

Dan Stevens plays David Haller, a troubled man diagnosed with schizophrenia. Legion is a superhero television show unlike any other that aired for three seasons on FX. The series begins with David being shuffled from one psychiatric institution the next where he falls in love with a patient named Syd.

David Haller is a mutant and the comics are based on the X-Men, but the show is very different than some of the other superhero and comic book movies you might have seen. It’s more of a psychological thriller with occasional horror elements.

The show isn’t afraid to get philosophical and mess with your mind, which is fitting, given its storyline. Throughout its three-season run, Legion received critical acclaim and praise for its distinct and mind-bending narrative.

Lucifer

Lucifer is almost like a spin-off of The Sandman, though decidedly different tonally. The character of Lucifer was introduced in The Sandman before getting his own spin-off comics. In the new Netflix series, the character of Lucifer Morningstar is played by Gwendoline Christie, but in the television show Tom Ellis plays the title role.

The six-season series is more of a police procedural than the same kind of fantastical show we get with the new series, but the show has a very dedicated fanbase and many people love it so it might be worth giving it a shot!
