In the fourth season of Virgin River, fans are formally introduced to Doc’s grandson Denny, who first arrived in Virgin River in the season 3 finale. Denny’s arrival created a lot of questions, largely due to the fact that Doc was said to have never had any children.

As we find out in season 4, Denny was the son of Doc’s son, whose mother is a woman by the name of Rose, who Doc dated before he went to med school. According to Denny, Rose broke things off with Doc via a letter so that he didn’t give up his dreams of becoming doctor. Denny only sought Doc out after his father passed away, in hopes of finally getting to know his grandfather.

At first, Denny’s intentions seem innocent enough; however, it soon becomes clear that he’s hiding something as evident by the series of mysterious events that unfold. After Mel catches him trying to break into the medication cabinet at the clinic red flags are sent up and things only get more suspicious when Lizzie discovers a prescription for Klonopin hidden away in Denny’s belongings.

What is Klonopin in Virgin River season 4?

So what exactly is Klonopin and why does Denny have a bottle of it hidden away in his belongings and a prescription that’s made out to someone else, at that.

For those unfamiliar with Klonopin, it is a brand of Clonazepam that WebMD reports is used to help prevent seizures, panic disorders and for anxiety as the drug is used to calm one’s brain and nerves. So why exactly does Denny need the medication?

Well, when Lizzie first asks him about the prescription, he notes that it’s for his anxiety which does check out; however, we later find out Denny is taking the medication for a much more serious condition.

As he reveals to Lizzie in the season finale, Denny is suffering from Huntington’s disease which is the true reason he needs the medication — which helps to ease muscle tremors, rigidity and anxiety in Huntington’s patients.
