Virgin River season 4 has arrived on Netflix, and so have the answers to ALL of our burning questions! Are you ready to find out who’s the father of Mel’s baby? It’s been just over a year of waiting since she dropped that bombshell on Jack (and us!).

In the new season of the hit romantic drama, Mel and Jack navigate the pregnancy as a unit while the question of paternity looms overhead. The baby could be Jack’s, but it could also be Mel’s late husband Mark’s from the round of IVF she completed last season.

Jack’s adamant that he doesn’t care if the baby is biologically his or not, he will love the child as his own no matter what. He spends most of the season not wanting to know the truth, but an unforeseen turn of events puts pressure on the couple to find out.

So, is Jack the father of Mel’s baby, or is Mark the father of the baby? We’re sharing the answer below, so if you haven’t finished binge-watching the new season of Virgin River, look away now!

WARNING: Major spoilers ahead from Virgin River season 4!

Who is the father of Mel’s baby in Virgin River season 4?

After Mel’s mother-in-law threatens to sue Mel for custody of the embryos she and Mark had saved for another pregnancy, Mel and Jack are pushed into a corner. If the pregnancy was a result of the IVF, then Mark’s mother would challenge them for custody of the baby.

They put off doing the paternity test for most of the season, but Mel and Jack finally go through with it in order to know what their future holds. To their relief, Jack is the father! But that’s not the only exciting news they receive. The test reveals the sex of the baby, and they’re having a girl!

Hopefully, Mel and Jack will continue to be able to enjoy the pregnancy and the joy of starting a family and getting married without the threat of a custody battle hanging over their heads. But that season-ending revelation could cause some drama moving forward.
