Rob Zombie’s The Munsters is coming to Netflix in September 2022

This fall, Netflix is taking us back in time with the Addams Family sequel Wednesday and Rob Zombie’s The Munsters movie. The year might be 2022, but it will feel like we’ve stepped back to the 1960s with both of these creepy cooky families represented on the streamer. These are only two of the Halloween-themed releases that Netflix will have for viewers this fall.

Zombie took to Instagram to announce that his film, based on the 1960s family sitcom, will release on Netflix in September. His film is an origin story of the characters and will chronicle events leading up to what takes place in the series that aired on CBS from September 24, 1964, to May 12, 1966.

He has long had a fascination with the Munster family, who reside at 1313 Mockingbird Lane in the fictional city of Mockingbird Heights, so much so that he recreated the whole neighborhood in Budapest, Hungary, for the film. Zombie has worked to make this project a reality for 20 years and stated he would stay true to the source material.

As with most of Zombie’s movies, his wife Sheri Moon Zombie stars. She pays Lily Munster in this film. Jeff Daniel Phillips joins her as Herman Munster, and Daniel Roebuck as The Count/Grandpa. Other exciting cast members include Pat Priest and Butch Patrick from the original series, Cassandra Peterson (better known as Elviria), Dee Wallace (known for her numerous horror roles), Richard Blake, and Jorge Garcia.

Some viewers have really come down on the trailer, but if you have ever watched an episode of the original series, it is quite campy, and this trailer fits right in with that theme. It is strange but fascinating to see these characters in color.

Netflix’s fall is beginning to look very exciting, with Rob Zombie’s The Munsters and Tim Burton’s Wednesday releasing in September.
