Since the second season, Stranger Things has introduced multiple new characters. Some of those include unnecessary (sorry!) Kali/008 , an especially key character in season 3, Billy Hargrove, the ultimate fan-favorite Eddie Munson, and many more.

Sometimes these additions have contributed to the story, and sometimes they felt a bit unnecessary. Especially since the Netflix Original already has such a big ensemble cast, you don’t want time taken away from them. But sometimes it is nice to have some new faces.

It’s become expected of the show to introduce us to new characters each season, especially lovable ones like Eddie, Bob Newby, and Alexei, and then breaking our hearts by killing them off. But going into the fifth and final season, the creators of the series will have a different approach.

Duffer Brothers confirm no new characters in Stranger Things season 5

In the season 4 volume 2 after-show on YouTube for Netflix Geeked, Ross and Matt Duffer (aka the Duffer Brothers) confirmed they won’t be introducing any new characters in season 5.

When asked how they keep track of all the main characters, especially since many of the new characters also get their own story arcs, Matt said “We’re stopping. We’re not adding any more characters in season 5. I promise.”

This makes sense as in another recent interview with Collider, the co-creator said the original Hawkins group is going to work together in the fifth season instead of being separated, going back to the season 1 dynamics that we all fell in love with.

I think this is a really good decision as the main cast group is already so large. There’s too many characters to focus on, and the writers will really want to make sure they center the story on each person as this is the final season.

The show has received complaints from some fans since they haven’t killed off any of the main characters since the start of the show, and that so many new characters can sometimes take away from the main ones. And with this finale, complicated battle with Vecna coming the group is definitely going to need to stick together!

What do you think about this decision? Do you agree? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
