Is Outer Banks season 3 coming out this summer? (2022)

OBX fans. I know like me, you’re desperately waiting for Outer Banks season 3 to drop on Netflix. This Netflix Original has been a massive hit for the streamer since its debut in April 2020. With everyone at home due to COVID restrictions, everyone had the time to binge watch the mystery-filled teen drama.

The show only got better with its second season, and I’m sure the third will be just as great! At the end of season 2, Sarah tries to escape the ship, but Ward catches up to her and starts to strangle his daughter. John B has the chance to kill him the way he killed his own father, but the brave teen lets Ward go. Eberhimi throws JJ overboard, so of course Kie jumps in after him.

The crew members help Rafe recover the Cross by shooting at Pope, who jumps overboard with Cleo. All of the Pogues end up on the lifeboat and find themselves on a deserted island, with their families investigating their disappearance. The big cliffhanger at the end is that Big John is actually alive, with Carla Limbrey knowing his location. He agrees to help her if she helps his son.

There’s a lot for our favorite friend group to figure out, and hopefully we get to see them do that in season 3. So when can we expect to see it?

Is Outer Banks season 3 coming out in summer 2022?

Unfortunately, there’s no way Outer Banks season 3 is coming out to Netflix this summer. Filming for the action-adventure’s sophomore season began at the end of August 2020 and wrapped on April 2, 2021. That took about seven months. Then season 2 dropped on Netflix a little over three months later on July 30, 2021.

Actress Madelyn Cline, who plays badass Sarah Cameron, shared that season 3 began filming at the end of February via a Twitter post. So, if production follows a similar schedule to the second season, that means filming might wrap sometime in September 2022.

However, What’s On Netflix reports the cameras are supposed to keep rolling until Aug. 19. Either way, filming will wrap too late to give us a summer release date. Could we possibly get the series back at the end of the year? Maybe. But an early 2023 release date is probably more likely.

We obviously don’t have any confirmation yet. These are all predictions. Hopefully Netflix will share an Outer Banks season 3 release date soon!
