Stranger Things season 4 part 1 ended on a major cliffhanger for our little heroine and this season’s big bad. We finally found out just what happened at Hawkins Laboratory in 1979. But fans were left with a burning question. Actress Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven, shared her thoughts on a certain theory.

The final episode of volume 1 revealed Victor Creel’s son, Henry, was the guard at Hawkins Lab that seemingly befriended Eleven. But it was all a way to manipulate her. But not only that – he’s also 001 and Vecna! Plus, it was Eleven who sent him through a gate and creating the monster. I’m still not over those shockers!

We know this season is supposed to give us more answers about the Upside Down, and we’ve already been learning more about it in this first half of episodes. But there’s still so many questions and things we don’t understand yet. One of those is whether Eleven just opened a gate to the Upside Down, or if she actually created the other dimension.

Millie Bobby Brown shares thoughts on Upside Down theory

In a recent interview with Variety, Brown was asked directly about whether her character created the other world, or just opened the first gate. It’s the question we’ve all been asking ourselves!

The Eleven actress said from what she understands and what she was told by the Duffer Brothers, the alternate universe was always there under Hawkins.

"I just think she has access to it. I don’t think that she created the Upside Down. No, I think that it was always there, I think she just created a gate to it which no one could before."

Brown sounds pretty sure about her answer. I guess we’ll have to wait for season 4 volume 2 to see if the show directly answers that question for the audience.

And we’re still left with so many like how did the lab close the gate since this was four years before 1983 when the first season was set? And why did sending Henry Creel/001 to the Upside Down make him into the monster that he is? Those last two episodes can’t come soon enough!
