Trees of Peace is an emotional new drama coming to Netflix tomorrow. This award-winning independent feature sheds light on the horrors of the Rwandan genocide of the Tutsis by the Hutus.

Set in April 1994, the survival drama follows a group of four women who are trapped and in hiding while the genocide happens around them. They’re forced to fight against all odds for survival while remaining hidden. Coming from all different backgrounds, the four women forge an unbreakable bond of sisterhood.

Trees of Peace cast: Eliane Umuhire as Annick

The talented actress Eliane Umuhire plays Annick in the film. Annick is married to Francois and the pair have been struggling to have children.

Where have you seen her before? Eliane is a Rwandan actress that has done a few movies, such as Things of the Aimless WandererBirds Are Singing in Kigali and Neptune Frost.

Trees of Peace cast: Charmaine Bingwa as Jeanette

The Zimbabwean-Australian actress Charmaine Bingwa plays the nun Jeannette in Trees of Peace. She’s often a voice of reason among the group, but has her own personal demons.

Where have you seen her before? Charmaine is probably best known for playing Carmen Moyo in The Good Fight. She also starred in Black Box, a film made as part of Amazon’s Welcome to the Blumhouse anthology film series and in 2018, Charmaine won the Heath Ledger Scholarship award. She is also lending her voice to the thrilling fictional podcast series The Burned Photo.

What’s next? Charmaine will next star in the 2023 film Emancipation for Apple TV+ alongside Will Smith, Ben Foster and Steven Ogg, and, of course, you can catch her in the sixth and final season of The Good Fight on Paramount+ this fall.

Trees of Peace cast: Ella Cannon as Peyton

Ella Cannon is an Australian actress who plays the American, Peyton, who came to Rwanda to volunteer as part of the Peace Projects organization.

Where have you seen her before? Ella previously recurred in the popular CW series iZombie as Rachel Greenblatt and also guest-starred in Supernatural. Additional projects you might recognize her from are Who Is Killing the Cheerleaders?, Deadly Due Date10 Steps to Love and Footballer Wants a Wife.

Trees of Peace cast: Bola Koleosho as Mutesi

Bola Koleosho is the Nigerian-American actress who plays the complicated yet endearing character of Mutesi in Trees of Peace.

Where have you seen her before? Besides Trees of Peace, Bola is best known for playing Evangeline in the Netflix series Dear White People.

Trees of Peace cast: Tongayi Chirisa as Francois

Tongayi Chirisa is a Zimbabwean actor who portrays Francois in the film Trees of Peace. His character is the only main male character in the movie and Francois plays an important role in assisting the women.

Where have you seen him before? Like Ella, Tongayi also starred in the CW series iZombie, where he played Justin Bell. He has also starred in other shows like Women of the Movement and Another Life. He guest-starred in an episode of American Horror Story and recently appeared in the movie Next Exit.

What’s next? Tongayi will next star as Ciprien in the upcoming adaptation of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches.
