Happy Pride Month! Here at Netflix Life, we’ve decided to celebrate this joyous month by watching some of the best LGBTQ+ Netflix shows that the streamer has to offer. Of course, if you want to join in on the fun, all are welcome! And you don’t have to worry about browsing Netflix’s endless catalog for shows to watch because we’ve shared our list of the best LGBTQ+ Netflix shows right below.

Pride Month is a month of celebration. It’s a time where LGBTQ+ voices are uplifted and the community is heard. It’s a celebration of all the LGBTQ+ achievements over the years. There are many Pride events throughout the month, like pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, marches, memorials, etc. To sum it up, it’s a month-long series of events to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities all around the world. In my opinion, it’s one of the best times of the year.

After spending most of your days attending several Pride events, why not end each day by watching some good LGBTQ+ Netflix shows with your friends and/or significant other? This way, each day of Pride is a day well spent.

LGBTQ+ Netflix shows to watch for Pride Month 2022

First Kill

First Kill will be released on Netflix on June 10 and I’m so excited about its release. Based on the short story of the same name by the brilliant writer, Victoria “V.E.” Schwab, comes a vampire-centric series about the forbidden love between a vampire and a monster hunter. In the show, viewers meet Juliette, a teen vampire who has reached the age where she must make her first kill to take her rightful place amongst her powerful vampire family. Then, there’s Calliope, a teen monster hunter who is also tasked with making her first kill. But once Juliette and Calliope meet and sparks fly, they quickly find out that the other won’t be so easy to kill, especially when romantic feelings are involved. Vampires and a sapphic love story? Sign me up!

Heartstopper

Heartstopper premiered on Netflix in April 2022 and people still can’t stop talking about it. It’s a television series adaptation of the webcomic and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman. The story follows Charlie, an openly gay high-strung teen, and Nick, a kind rugby-loving jock. When the two meet at secondary school, they quickly become friends, which eventually turns into an unexpected romance. If you haven’t already watched Heartstopper, you need to get to it soon. The teen series was renewed for a second and third season!

Ginny and Georgia

Ginny and Georgia includes not only one of the best mother-daughter duos but also one of the cutest queer couples. In the first season of the teen series, Ginny makes a new friend named Max in her new town. Max is an openly lesbian teen who has a crush on a straight girl. Unsurprisingly, that doesn’t go well, and Max ends up broken-hearted. But then Max meets Sophie, who she describes as the “hottest girl in school,” and there’s an instant connection. They eventually get together, and viewers get to see tons of adorable moments between the young couple. We definitely recommend checking out Ginny and Georgia when you get the chance. Also, there’s a Ginny and Georgia season 2 in the works, so we haven’t seen the last of Max’s story.

Young Royals

Next up on our list of the best LGBTQ+ Netflix shows is Young Royals. It’s a Swedish teen series about a Prince named Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) who enrolls in a prestigious boarding school after getting involved in a huge scandal. By enrolling in the boarding school, Wilhelm can get away from his royal obligations and finally explore his true self and find out what kind of life he really wants. While at the boarding school, Wilhelm meets a scholarship student named Simon (Omar Rudberg), and viewers get to watch their blossoming relationship. In every relationship, there’s bound to be drama, and Wilhelm and Simon’s relationship is no exception. Make sure Young Royals is one of the first shows you watch for Pride Month because a second season is slated to come out this year.

Sex Education

So what I really enjoy about Sex Education is that it features several LGBTQ+ characters and relationships. It’s simply one of the queerest teen shows ever and I love it! In the teen series, an openly gay character was involved in a love triangle with two boys, which isn’t something we’ve seen a lot of on TV. The love triangle trope is typically reserved for straight couples, so it was exciting to see it used for queer characters. There’s also a queer couple consisting of a pansexual woman and a bisexual woman, which is rarely shown on TV. In season 3, viewers are introduced to a non-binary character, and we get to see their story. There’s a lack of representation for the non-binary community in the media, so it was exciting to see this representation in Sex Education.

Elite

Elite is another Netflix show that features several LGBTQ+ characters and relationships. The teen series follows the lives of the students at a prestigious secondary school in Spain. There’s romance, drama, murder, and more drama. It’s arguably one of the best teen series on Netflix. One of the main couples that many people fell in love with was Rebe and Mencia. There was just so much chemistry between them that you couldn’t help but root for them to be together. There’s also the relationship between Omar and Ander. They experience many ups and downs in their relationship, but you know they’re soulmates. And we can’t forget Patrick, the openly gay teen who has no problem causing trouble for other characters. You should definitely check out Elite this Pride Month if you haven’t already.

Orange Is the New Black

You can’t have a list of the best LGBTQ+ Netflix shows and not include Orange Is the New Black. When the comedy-drama series premiered on Netflix in 2013, it became an instant hit. People fell in love with Piper and Alex’s relationship. Although there was tons of betrayal and drama between the two, you knew that Piper and Alex truly loved each other. Another cute queer couple in the show was Poussey and Soso. It was exciting to watch their love story unfold. Then, there were other amazing LGBTQ+ characters like openly lesbian Nicky Nichols and transgender woman Sophia Burset. If you’ve already watched Orange Is the New Black, chances are it’s been a while since you’ve seen it. So what better time to rewatch the series than now?

Teenage Bounty Hunters

The cancellation of Teenage Bounty Hunters still hurts me to this day. This show had so much potential, but sadly, Netflix didn’t see it. We all love a good enemies-to-lovers story, and Teenage Bounty Hunters provided just that. The show follows two teen twin sisters, Sterling and Blair, who secretly become bounty hunters in order to pay for their truck’s repairs.

Sterling’s sexuality is never really defined because viewers are introduced to her when she has a boyfriend. However, she begins to develop feelings for her ex-friend and enemy, April. Later, it’s revealed that April also harbored feelings for Sterling. Like every enemies-to-lovers story, there were some bumps in the road for the young couple. Although the show only had one season, we still recommend watching it because there are many cute moments between Sterling and April throughout the season.
