Will Steve and Nancy get back together in Stranger Things season 4?

We all have our favorite ships on Stranger Things. Whether you root for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) or Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton), there are a handful of really sweet love stories in between all the Demogorgon and Spider Monster fighting. Of course, fans all want to see Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) finally get together, and hopefully we’ll see that happen in Stranger Things season 4!

Fans know that Jonathan is not Nancy’s first romantic interest on Stranger Things. In fact, she’s actually in a love triangle in the second season before she starts dating Jonathan. In season 1, she starts a relationship with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), a popular guy who has some fantastic character development throughout the seasons. Though he seems like a jerk in the beginning of the show, he soon becomes one of the best characters.

Will Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Steve (Joe Keery) get back together in Stranger Things season 4?

Nancy and Jonathan are still going strong through Stranger Things season 3 and perhaps even season 4, though everything will be different because they’re long distance. Will they make it in season 4, or will Nancy go back to Steve? We speculate here!

Nancy and Steve don’t have the best relationship when they’re dating, but they do have cute moments! Plus, like mentioned, Steve has changed a lot since season 1. He’s now super goofy and actually pretty nice. There’s a big chance he and Nancy would get along better nowadays.

With Jonathan now living in California with his family and Nancy back in Hawkins, there’s bound to be a strain on their relationship. In the Stranger Things season 4 trailer, we don’t see any scenes of the two together! And while Eleven is excited to be reunited with Mike for Spring Break, we don’t see any evidence that Nancy and Jonathan will see each other during that time.

Instead, we do see a moment between Nancy and Steve in the Stranger Things season 4 trailer. They’re teaming up with the rest of the group in Hawkins to investigate the Creel House, also evidenced in one of the teasers that was released at TUDUM 2021.

In 2019, actress Natalia Dyer even revealed she wants to see Nancy and Steve get back together! “I feel like long-distance is hard nowadays, so imagine long-distance relationships back then,” she shared to ELLE, referring to Nancy and Jonathan’s relationship come season 4. She added:

"“I’d love to see if her and Steve would ever get back together, or at least if they get closure. Will their chapter ever close? I’m very curious. Also, I want her to get a female friend. RIP Barb.”"

Based on the trailer, the show is certainly planting the seed that Nancy and Steve could get together. But in my opinion, I don’t really want that to happen. If Nancy and Jonathan break up, then she should just be single! She doesn’t need to date someone else immediately or go back to a former flame just because she can. I’m leaning towards the two getting closure and becoming good friends.
