Well, The CW just made a lot of decisions that made many, many fans mad, sad, and very confused. On May 12, the network announced that seven shows in its current lineup have been canceled: 4400, Charmed, Dynasty, In the Dark, Legacies, Naomi, and Roswell, New Mexico.

The fates of Stargirl  and Tom Swift have yet to be revealed as of this writing, but fans of the aforementioned series are already reeling and wondering what could be next for their favorite shows post-cancellation at The CW. Could a new network or streamer swoop in and save one of them?

Dynasty has called Netflix its streaming home since its first season dropped in 2018, and the underrated primetime soap has delivered impressive viewership on the streamer around the world. In fact, its international audience on Netflix has helped keep the show on air.

While Dynasty won’t be coming back for season 6 on The CW, will the series have a chance to continue on with a little help from Netflix? Let’s get into the likelihood of the fan-favorite being saved for a sixth season by the streaming service.

Why did The CW cancel Dynasty?

Due to The CW’s impending sale to Nexstar, the network is very obviously downsizing its content output. With the sale, Warner Bros. and CBS/Paramount (which produced Dynasty) will no longer be majority owners in the network and provide most of the programming.

As Deadline surmises in the aftermath of The CW’s mass cancellations of nine of its original series, financial concerns were at the forefront of the behind-the-scenes choices to cut so many shows. Dynasty had benefitted from a deal between CBS and Netflix, but the show’s luck sadly ran out. It seems as though the new owners will put a much larger priority on making money for the network rather than making money for the studios providing the content.

Could Netflix save Dynasty?

Technically, yes. Netflix could save Dynasty for season 6 — the operative word being “could.” The series is a strong performer internationally and posts bigger numbers than its live ratings on The CW. But will Netflix save Dynasty? That’s another story.

We know that The CW has been going through some growing pains and restructuring behind the scenes (hence the mass cancellations) due to the impending sale of the network. But we also know Netflix has been going through a bit of its own behind the scenes mess.

For that reason, it’s extremely unlikely that Dynasty will find a new home at Netflix. As much as we would love to see the series continue with season 6, the current fifth season looks to be the end of the road for the Carringtons.

Will Dynasty season 5 stream on Netflix?

However, it’s not all bad news. Fans around the world will still have their chance to watch Dynasty season 5 — now the final season — on Netflix. The final 22 episodes will begin streaming on Netflix eight days after the televised finale, sometime in late July or early August 2022.

Of course, the previous four seasons of the series are still available to stream on Netflix right now, and the complete series of five seasons will be available for five years after the final season. Being so, the series will mostly likely leave Netflix at some point in 2027.
