The Photographer: Murder in Pinamar trailer, release date, synopsis and more

True crime fans will soon have another documentary to sink their teeth into when Netflix releases the investigative Argentinian film The Photographer: Murder in Pinamar (El fotógrafo y el cartero: el crimen de Cabezas) this May.

The provocative story is about Argentine photojournalist José Luis Cabezas, who was kidnapped, tortured and later murdered in 1997. Cabezas was last seen at an exclusive beach resort well-known for attracting some of the country’s most powerful people. Not only did this crime shake the country to its core, but it uncovered a sinister political and financial conspiracy.

Alejandro Hartmann directed the documentary in addition to executive producing and assisting with writing alongside co-writers Tatiana Mereñuk and Gabriel Bobillo. Vanessa Ragone and Mariela Besuievsky also serve as executive producers on the feature originating in Argentina.

The documentary film is coming to Netflix on May 19 alongside other Netflix Originals like A Perfect Pairing, Rodrigo Sant’Anna: I’ve Arrived, The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib and The G Word with Adam Conover. New content comes to Netflix at 12:00 a.m. PT / 3:00 a.m. ET.

The Photographer: Murder in Pinamar synopsis

Taking place in the late ’90s, this chilling crime happened soon after Cabezas published a photograph of businessman Alfredo Yabrán, who allegedly had connections to corrupt government officials and infamously did not want his photo taken. The documentary delves into what happened to Cabezas and the underlying conspiracies of the time.

Netflix has released the official trailer for the Argentinian documentary, but it is in Spanish without English subtitles. They should release one with updated captions sometime soon, I assume. If not you can still anticipate the documentary itself having English subtitles.
