Thar Netflix movie release date, cast, trailer, synopsis and more

Netflix is rolling out its summer movie plan and there are several big blockbusters on the way in the next few months. You can also expect to see several foreign movies, like the dark thriller Thar from Indian actor, screenwriter and director Raj Singh Chaudhary. Chaudhary is best known for his lead role in the Hindi-language film, Gulaal (2009).

Chaudhary wrote the screenplay and directed Thar. He previously directed the Indian Hindi-language musical drama Shaadisthan (2021), which was distributed by Disney+ Hotstar Multiplex. Anil Kapoor Film and Communication Network (AKFC) serve as producers on Chaudhary’s film, which was produced in India.

Thar release date

The film will release on Friday, May 6 alongside other Netflix films like Along for the Ride and The Takedown.

Thar cast

Acclaimed Indian actor Anil Kapoor stars alongside his real-life son Harshvardhan Kapoor in the thriller. Jitendra Joshi, who Netflix fans might recognize from the hit television series Sacred Games, also stars.

Thar synopsis

Per Netflix, here is the film’s official synopsis:

"Siddharth (Harshvarrdhan Kapoor), an antique dealer scouts old, abandoned forts in a remote Rajasthan village. The region has recently been rocked by a series of violent killings. As the local cop Surekha Singh (Anil Kapoor) investigates these killings, he crosses paths with Siddharth and soon realizes that the ruggedly handsome antique dealer is not who he seems and that his intentions may be far more devious."

Netflix released the official trailer for the Hindi-language movie earlier this month and it’s an impressive one to boot. It teases just enough of the plot to entrance the audience without revealing too much of the storyline, something we’re often hard-pressed to find in trailers nowadays. It also reveals impressive cinematography and what appears to be a gritty Western. I don’t know about you, but this trailer single-handled bumped Thar up my list of anticipated films!
