Following the announcement that The Crown wouldn’t surpass season 6, fans of the Netflix title scrambled to predict which royal events the title would depict in its final season, especially after creator Peter Morgan previously confirmed that the marriage of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry (or any current royal marriage for that matter) will not be shown in the series due to how “recent” the historical event is.

“I just think you get so much more interesting [with time],” Morgan told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end. One wishes some happiness, but I’m much more comfortable writing about things that happened at least 20 years ago.”

Although Morgan’s stance seems to be somewhat unmoved when it comes to the direction of the show, a certain casting call for a young Kate Middleton may prove otherwise.

Will The Crown venture closer to the present day after all, or does Peter Morgan have something different in mind? We tell you everything we know so far here.

Will Kate Middleton have a character in The Crown season 6?

Fortunately for fans of the royal family, there is a fair chance that a Kate Middleton and Prince William storyline may be featured in the sixth season, meaning there is also a pretty good possibility that Prince Harry’s beginning stages of his relationship with Meghan Markle will be included, too.

Our inkling comes from Variety, which reports that The Crown is currently on the search for an “exceptional young actor to play Kate Middleton.” The posting also went on to state, “This is a good role in this award-winning drama and we are looking for a strong physical resemblance.”

The reason why the series is looking to cast a young Middleton is unknown to us. However, we’re assuming it may be because Morgan decided to showcase the new generation of the royals as a way to make the series come full circle. Or, perhaps the inclusion of Kate Middleton is the creator’s way of teasing that there is much more to come in a spin-off series for The Crown. (Fingers crossed!)

Any of the aforementioned possibilities are relatively feasible, given the fact that the Netflix series does have its fair share of time jumps throughout each season. And in knowing that season 5, slated to arrive in November 2022, will have yet another time leap, it would almost be beside us to not assume season 6 will also jump several years ahead.

Of course, only time will tell what else is in store for Morgan’s riveting series, but we hope it is what we’ve predicted thus far.

As the fifth season of The Crown approaches faster, we are bound to receive more updates about the final two seasons. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates regarding the historical drama.
