At long last, the highly-anticipated adaptation of Heartstopper is almost out! The new coming-of-age series is based on a webtoon and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman, following a gay teenager named Charlie Springs (Joe Locke). Fans of the romance story are so excited to see it come to life on Netflix, and we’re sure it’ll crack the Top 10 list in no time after it’s released on Friday, April 22.

In the new show, we’ll get to meet Charlie’s adorable friend group, including Tao (William Gao), Elle (Yasmin Finney), and Isaac (Tobie Donovan). And of course, we’ll also be introduced to Charlie’s new love interest Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), a popular jock at school who he forms a close bond with. Though Charlie believes Nick is straight, he gets confused by the mixed signals and eventually, it becomes apparent both boys have feelings for each other.

Heartstopper follows Nick and Charlie’s blossoming romance and the ups and downs that come with it. Check out the trailer below if you haven’t seen it and prepare to an adorable binge!

There are eight episodes of Heartstopper and they’re bound to get viewers obsessed with Charlie and Nick’s story. But what about what’s after season 1? Can fans expect more seasons of the sweet LGBTQ+ show?

Will there be a Heartstopper season 2?

At this time, Heartstopper has not been renewed for any more seasons. However, we wouldn’t be too worried at this point. Considering this is a new show and it hasn’t been released yet, Netflix likely has to assess its viewership before deciding whether or not to order more episodes. We’re expecting the show to be really popular, though, meaning it’s looking pretty likely that we’ll get at least a season 2.

How many Heartstopper books are there?

If you’re not familiar with the source material, there are five total chapters in the story by Oseman. You can buy them on paperback, and according to the Alice Oseman Universe Wiki, book #1 covers the first two chapters, book #2 covers the third chapter, book #3 covers the fourth chapter, and book #4 covers the fifth chapter. The first season of Heartstopper covers the first three chapters, meaning there’s more of Oseman’s original work to cover future seasons.

If Netflix’s Heartstopper continues to follow the comics, we’re predicting there could be two seasons total. However, if the show proves to be a huge success, we could be looking at even more. Oseman is the creator of the show, meaning she has creative control and could keep writing Charlie and Nick’s story for the small screen.

We’re assuming Heartstopper will be back for at least a second season, but of course this is merely a prediction. Check back with us at Netflix Life for our full coverage of season 1 and for any updates on the show’s future!
