Netflix’s latest young adult/teen series based on a book is Heartstopper. It’s based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman, and it looks like the cutest show to ever exist. As it’s based on a teen graphic novel, it will likely catch the eye of plenty of kids.

The new Netflix original series takes place in Britain and follows two boys, Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson. They go to the same all-boys school but don’t know much about each other. That is until they share the same class and become friends. But as they spend more time together, their friendship eventually turns into something more.

The new series was created and written by the author of the book (always a good sign) and will be directed by Euro Lyn, who has also been a director on Daredevil and Broadchurch. The cast consists of Joe Locke, Kit Connor, Momo Yeung, Joseph Balderrama, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Jenny Walser, and Sebastian Croft.

The show ties together everything you could want from a teen series. It has romance, friendship, sexuality, and all the drama and angst that comes with being a teen. Kids are bound to be drawn to it, but is it age-appropriate?

Heartstopper age rating

Heartstopper is rated TV-14. That means it may not be suitable for ages 14 and under. It’s on par with Never Have I Ever, Ginny & Georgia, and Stranger Things. Although, there is nothing as creepy as a Demogorgon in Heartstopper. It mainly has this rating because of some of the language used in the series.

If it’s anything like the graphic novels, a few swear words and some homophobia from a few of the kids at the school are the only things you need to worry about.
