Stranger Things season 4: Eleven will be in her darkest state
It would be an understatement to say Stranger Things has put Eleven through the wringer. She was taken away from her mother at birth, raised by the horrible scientist Papa in a lab, lost her adoptive father, and almost died several times to save Hawkins from the dangers of the Upside Down.
Yeah. That’s not even half of it. And yet, somehow the creators of the hit Netflix show, Matt and Ross Duffer (aka the Duffer Brothers), will find more ways to bring all types of darkness to this poor girl. She’s only a freshman in high school and look at how much she’s endured! To add to that, she’s not really fitting in at school. How much more can she take?
A hero’s journey is never easy. There’s going to more challenges for Eleven to face in Stranger Things season 4.
Eleven will be in her darkest state in Stranger Things season 4
The lovely actress behind our beloved Eleven, Millie Bobby Brown, recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about where her character will experience in the upcoming season. She told EW:
"You get to see Eleven in the darkest state she’s ever been. This has definitely been the hardest season I’ve ever filmed. And there have been some of the scariest, scariest things that I’ve ever seen as a human, which you guys will get to see, for sure."
She also teased that the fact that she doesn’t have her powers anymore means she needs to face her past. A big part of that was her time at Hawkins Lab. In season 1 we saw some flashbacks to her time there and the lab played a big role, but we haven’t seen it as much in the following seasons.
But we know two things from the teasers and recently shared trailer: there will be flashbacks of the lab, and Hawkins needs Eleven’s powers to help beat the horrors of the Upside Down. This little heroine definitely can’t catch a break!
I wonder if Brown means this season was the hardest emotionally, physically, or both. I do think there’s going to be a lot of mental hardships since she needs to think about her past. I mean, she’s already kind of gone her darkest physically. Just think of the end of season 2 and the sauna scene in season 3.
When Eleven is fighting a possessed Billy, she collapses into Mike. That part was unscripted. The actress was just so exhausted and they kept it in the cut. I don’t know how she does it. Brown has been an absolute star. She’s taken on physically and mentally demanding things that are even difficult for adults to portray since day 1.
Stranger Things season 4 has been split into two parts. The first arrives on Netflix May 27, with the second half making it onto our screens on July 1.
