Exploding Kittens is coming to Netflix in a big way very soon. In a first-of-its-kind deal, Netflix will create an adult animated comedy based on the popular card game and a new mobile game. Launched from the same franchise, Netflix hopes to capitalize on the game’s success to create Exploding Kittens – The Game, an exclusive version of the beloved card game.

Then in 2023, an adult animated series will follow starring notable actors like Lucy Liu, Tom Ellis, Ally Maki and many more. If you’re a fan of the card game and want to learn more about the upcoming series or mobile app, keep reading to find out everything we know about this exciting news.

The animated series will not be released until 2023. We don’t have a tighter release window just yet, but stay tuned to Netflix Life to stay in the loop on all future developments!

Exploding Kittens cast

Lucifer star Tom Ellis will lead the cast alongside other notable actors such as Lucy Liu and Ally Maki. We should find out who else will start in the series later this year.

Exploding Kittens synopsis

Per Netflix, the upcoming series will follow “the eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell reaches epic proportions when both God and the Devil are sent to Earth – in the bodies of chunky house cats.”

Shane Kosakowski and Matthew Inman will serve as showrunners while Mike Judge, Greg Daniels and Dustin Davis of Bandera Entertainment will executive produce. Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping for the Chernin Entertainment Group and creators of the Exploding Kittens franchise, Elan Lee and The Oatmeal’s Inman will also executive produce the series.

Exploding Kittens game

In addition to the animated series, Netflix will release a mobile game based on Exploding Kittens. The game will be released in May! We do not have an exact date yet, but we will update you as soon as we know when the game is coming out.

According to the Netflix press release, the game will retain the same classic gameplay with players drawing cards aiming to avoid the Exploding Kitten. Fans will also enjoy two new exclusive cards.

• Radar: Reveals to players the position of the Exploding Kitten closest to the top of the card deck
• Flip Flop: Reverses the order of the cards in the deck
