Did IMDb just spoil [SPOILER]’s return in Stranger Things season 4?

The countdown is officially on for the release of Stranger Things season 4. After nearly three years without new episodes, the fans are understandably impatient. But after we got the first full-length trailer for the new installment today, people are starting to realize it’ll be worth the wait. We’re going to meet new characters, new monsters, and of course, see our favorite characters in danger. It’s safe to assume there will likely be a big death or two, especially coming off the heartbreaking season 3 finale.

As fans will remember, Jim Hopper (David Harbour) was believed to be dead — but fortunately is very much alive and will make his triumphant return in season 4! — and we saw Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) meet his bitter end. Though Billy wasn’t the best big brother to Max (Sadie Sink), they still shared a bond and we didn’t want to see him die whatsoever.

But of course, this is a sci-fi series and that sometimes means people can come back from the dead. Look at Hopper, for example! People have been wondering if Billy will appear somehow in Stranger Things season 4, especially since there’s an episode with his name in it.

Is Billy (Dacre Montgomery) in Stranger Things season 4?

Though it seems as though Billy very much dies in Stranger Things season 3, a potential leak has us thinking he could make a return. The TV and movie site IMDb lists Montgomery as being in three episodes of season 4, including “Dear Billy,” “The Dive,” and “The Piggyback.” This has us hopeful that he’ll appear in some capacity!

Of course, IMDb is not Netflix, which means Billy’s return is not confirmed by the streamer. That said, the site has been known to leak casting information in the past. It seems likely that the character will appear in these three episodes at the very least, though we don’t know how.

It’s certainly possible that Billy will appear in season 4 through flashbacks. As we see in the trailer, Max is very much grieving the loss of her step-brother and so we wouldn’t be surprised if she thinks back to memories she has with him. Montgomery could also be credited through voiceover.

At this time, it isn’t officially confirmed that Billy will be back in season 4, but IMDb might have just spoiled it.

How did Billy die in Stranger Things?

Billy’s death might not have been the most sad in the show (I’m still crying over Bob!), but it was definitely one of the craziest moments.

At the beginning of season 3, he gets possessed after crashing his car and being sucked into the Upside Down by the Mind Flayer. The monster uses his body to kidnap victims into the Upside Down and build the Spider Monster, which continues throughout the season.

By the end of season 3, Billy sacrifices himself to the Mind Flayer in order to save Eleven and the kids at the Starcourt Mall. The Spider Monster is killed, as is Billy. It’s devastating! You can watch his full death scene in the video below.

We’re so excited to find out whether or not Billy will return for more episodes! Stranger Things season 4 is split up into two parts, with volume 1 premiering on Netflix on May 27 and the second part coming out on July 1.
