Haikyuu took the world of sports anime by storm after its release in April 2014. Centering around volleyball, this sports anime managed to rise to the top as the most popular anime in its genre during the past few years.

Haruichi Furudate, the mangaka responsible for the creation of this amazing series, is a sports anime fan himself and has admitted to being highly influenced by the anime Kuroko no Basuke.

The story of Haikyuu centers around protagonist Hinata Shoyo who, despite his short height, aims to be the top spiker in the nation. Netflix recognized the immense popularity of this anime and added them to their site in the year 2019.

How many seasons of Haikyuu are there?

Since its release in 2019, the anime has released a total of four seasons. The first three seasons of Haikyuu came out in 2014, 2015, and 2016 respectively. Season 4 was divided into two parts (To the Top part 1 and 2) and both of them were released in 2020. Unfortunately, the anime isn’t currently streaming on Netflix in the US.

Moreover, the anime also came out with a total of four movies: Owari no Hajimari (2015), Sousha to Haisha (2015), Sainou to Sense (2017), and Concept no Tatakai (2017).

Apart from the regular series and the movies, the anime has a total of seven OVAs released between 2014 and 2020. The OVAs Quest Picture Drama and Lev Genzen came out in 2014; Vs. Akaten came out in 2016; Tokushuu! Haru-kou Volley ni Kaketa Seishun came out in 2017; and both the OVAs Riku vs Kuu and Boru vs Michi came out in 2020.

Will there be a Haikyuu season 5?

The Haikyuu manga has a total of 402 chapters and it ended in the year 2020. The last released season of Haikyuu (season 4 parts 1 and 2) has completed the story up to chapter 248. Therefore, there is a lot of room for a completely new season. It would not be illogical to expect a season 5 with at least 25 episodes to be released. Given the anime’s popularity, there is a good chance that it will continue further.

The production of many anime series got delayed after the pandemic started and Haikyuu might have unfortunately been one of them. Season 4 ended with hints toward a possible game between Karasuno and Nekoma. This match is supposedly the most highly anticipated one yet and has the fans desperately waiting for its release.

The creators have mentioned no official date as to when the production of season 5 of Haikyuu will begin. However, after looking at the previous releases, it is easy to deduce that the production cycle usually takes one year. Since the anime creators had gone on a hiatus after the release of season 3, season 4 took much longer than it should have.

Since Haikyuu season 4 came out in 2020, we should have been able to see the release of season 5 in 2021 itself. However, the pandemic must have halted the production process. Since a lot of pandemic restrictions were relaxed towards the end of 2021 it is safe to guess that, like much other anime, the production of the process of Haikyuu season 5 might have also started around that time.

Haikyu!! season 5 release updates

No official release date for Haikyuu season 5 has been announced yet. However, an upcoming event called the “Jump Festa” (a highly anticipated event for anime fans) has announced that they will have a dedicated panel to address all the fan questions regarding the release of Haikyuu season 5.

There has been speculation, however, that season 5 is set to be released in 2022 itself. Even the popular Shounen Jump magazine has teased fans about the upcoming release of season 5. While it is true that we do not have any official dates, the fact that we will be getting season 5 soon is almost certain.
