Top Boy season 3: Netflix renews Top Boy for third and final season

We have great news, Top Boy fans. Netflix has handed out a third installment of the crime drama series, and filming is scheduled to start this summer! We shared everything there is to know about Top Boy season 3 below.

Top Boy season 2 was finally released on Netflix on March 18 after over a two-year wait. As soon as the clock struck 12, fans were quick to hit play and binge-watch all eight episodes. As expected, the second season left viewers with more questions that need answering.

Fortunately, they won’t have to worry about their questions not being answered because Top Boy season 3 has been officially greenlit. On March 31 (just a day shy of a new month), Netflix announced that Top Boy will be returning for a third season. Sadly, the third season will be the last. An announcement video was also included.

The Strong Black Lead Twitter account (which is run by Netflix) tweeted about the renewal announcement and included “filming starts this summer.” So we could possibly see Top Boy season 3 sooner than we initially thought.

We weren’t expecting to hear of a renewal announcement so soon. Once a new season drops of an original series, Netflix typically waits a month or so before announcing a renewal. This gives the streamer enough time to see where the viewership numbers land. This wasn’t the case for Top Boy, though. Netflix must’ve seen the potential and/or based the renewal on how popular the show is as a whole. We’re just happy that we get to see a third season and that the story will be wrapped up.

Now that we know Top Boy season 3 is in the works, when can we expect it to arrive on Netflix? Below, we shared our release date predictions.

Top Boy season 3 release updates

Initially, we thought season 3 could arrive on Netflix in 2024. However, we made this prediction before the series was renewed. Since production for the third season is slated to start this summer, we’re most likely looking at a 2023 release. We’ll need a little more information to determine when exactly the third season could land on Netflix. But, for now, expect season 3 to come to Netflix sometime in 2023.
