What is The Bubble starring Karen Gillan about?
By Mads Lennon
This Friday, Netflix is releasing Judd Apatow’s latest movie, The Bubble. This meta-comedy film takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic with a group of actors known for their roles in the in-universe action franchise Cliff Beasts must get together to make Cliff Beasts 6 while trapped in a “bubble” inside a hotel. Apatow directs a script he co-wrote with Pam Brady.
Trapped on a closed film set in a large hotel in England, it almost seems like the ideal setting to spend the pandemic, but the cast soon finds out that it’s not going to be all fun and games on this set as they find themselves faced with a multitude of obstacles.

The Bubble synopsis
In the world of The Bubble, the Cliff Beasts film franchise is on par with Jurassic Park—except it doesn’t take itself as seriously.
The mega-successful dinosaur movies are a big deal for the studio, so they want to produce Cliff Beasts 6 no matter what, even if that means shuttling the cast and crew to a closed film set (hence the “the bubble) in England so they can get the movie made. But trying to create a massive action-adventure film in a hotel isn’t easy.
Here is the logline for the movie, per Netflix:
"Comedy about a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a sequel to an action franchise film about flying dinosaurs."
