6 best Netflix shows to watch (and 3 to skip) in April 2022
By Reed Gaudens
Another new month brings lots of new Netflix shows to our watch lists, and the streamer isn’t playing around when it comes to its April 2022 selection. From high-profile series finales to buzzy series premieres, there’s something everyone will be talking about this month.
Following the huge release of Bridgerton season 2, Netflix continues to deliver the big releases we want to see with Ozark and Grace and Frankie returning for their final episodes, but there are also plenty more comebacks and new shows worth tuning into.
Of course, April’s new releases lead into the most massive new release of them all: Stranger Things season 4 volume 1, which arrives at the end of May. We’re getting closer to the event of the summer, and it all starts with this month’s new offerings.
Best Netflix shows April 2022
But should you add all of this month’s new release shows to your watch list? That’s a question we all wonder throughout the month, and we’re going to get to the bottom of what to watch this spring, beginning below with the biggest release of April, Ozark season 4 part 2.
Ozark season 4 part 2
Watch! As if Ozark fans won’t be binge-watching the final seven episodes of the series… We know this one is a no-brainer, but Ozark season 4 part 2 is THE must-watch of the month. Find out how the Byrde family’s story comes to an end, and what happens after Ruth’s terrifying scream, when Ozark crosses the finish line with its series final on April 29.
The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On
Skip! From the makers of Love is Blind comes another reality dating competition series on Netflix called The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On. The series follows six couples who must decide if they will get married or move on. If they move on, they have the chance to date someone from the other couples. See this chaos — or don’t — in the new series, which premieres on April 6.
Russian Doll season 2
Watch! Finally, Russian Doll returns with its long-awaited follow-up season to the knockout, Emmy-nominated first season. Russian Doll season 2 brings back Natasha Lyonne in the time-loop, time-jumping comedy series, and she’s joined with new cast addition Annie Murphy, the Emmy-winning star of Schitt’s Creek. Jump back into this world on April 20!
Elite season 5
Watch! If you’ve been waiting for the next season of the Spanish teen drama series Elite, your wait will come to an end on April 8. The fifth season of the fan-favorite series returns with all the drama you love and more new characters to stir the pot. All of this leads into the already-ordered Elite season 6, which will also be coming soon to Netflix.
Hard Cell
Skip! The new series Hard Cell utilizes a documentary-style setup not unlike The Office and Abbott Elementary, but the British comedy takes place in a women’s prison. Should this one pop up on the Netflix top 10 after its premiere on April12 and you’re interested in watching to see what all the hype is about, the viewers who aren’t specifically into this kind of comedy should probably just skip it.
Heartstopper
Watch! The cutest new series coming to Netflix in April, Heartstopper will pull on your heartstrings, steal your heart, warm your heart… all of the things! At the center of the series is a love story between Charlie and Nick as they, along with their friends, discover who they are and want to be. If you love teen series on Netflix, this is a can’t-miss new release!
Grace and Frankie: The Final Episodes
Watch! Obviously, fans of Grace and Frankie will be flocking to Netflix on April 29 to check out the final 12 episodes of the veteran comedy series. It’s bittersweet! While we’re excited for new episodes of the Emmy-nominated series, it’s the last time we’re getting new episodes. Revel in the swan song when the series finale drops on the same day as Ozark’s.
Selling Sunset season 5
Skip! There’s so much unscripted content coming to Netflix in April 2022, including documentaries, comedy specials, and reality series. But don’t feel as if you have to watch them all. If you haven’t gotten into Selling Sunset by now, you’re probably not going to want to rush to check out the fifth season when it makes its premieres on April 22.
Anatomy of a Scandal
Watch! Like Pieces of Her in March and Inventing Anna in February, Netflix viewers love a good limited series, and Anatomy of a Scandal serves up more of the genre in April. The courtroom drama comes for David E. Kelley, the creator of Ally McBeal, Big Little Lies, and more. Don’t miss the scandalous new series when it arrives on April 15.
