Bridgerton season 2 is finally here! It’s the show everyone is currently watching and talking about. Questions are starting to arise as people go through each episode of the season, and we’re here to answer every single one.

Many fans were anticipating Bridgerton season 2, and now that it is finally here, they can’t believe everything that occurred this season. Season 2 was even more drama-filled than the first season, and I didn’t think that could be possible. The will-they-won’t-they trope was used once again, and though it made me angry at times, it made for a beautiful love story in the end.

Of course, most questions revolve around the love triangle between Anthony, Kate, and Edwina, but some people noticed things this season that most people thought nothing of. For example, some people are wondering what a cut direct is. Keep reading because we discuss what a cut direct is right below.

What is a cut direct in Bridgerton season 2?

Viewers first hear of this term in the last episode of season 2 by Violet Bridgerton. She tells her children that she was given the cut direct twice while on her walk. Before doing any kind of research, I tried to figure out what the term meant on my own.

At this moment in season 2, the Bridgertons are being shunned by the rest of London’s high society for the canceling of Anthony and Edwina’s wedding and Eloise’s involvement with political radicals. So if Violet is on a walk and people give her the cut direct, I think it could mean that they ignore her.

After researching what the term means, it’s considered a Regency term that many people used during that time period. According to Regency Reader, a cut direct is “to stare an acquaintance in the face and pretend not to know him.” It’s a deliberate act. Since Violet was out for a walk, many people were around and most likely saw her be given the cut direct, which is very humiliating. It’s even more humiliating for a person of high class like the Bridgertons.
