How does Edmund Bridgerton die in Bridgerton season 2?

In Bridgerton season 2 episode 3, “A Bee in Your Bonnet,” a flashback episode features Charmed actor Rupert Evans as Edmund Bridgerton. While in the garden with Anthony, the former Viscount suffers a bee sting, which proves tragically fatal for the Bridgerton patriarch.

Anthony watches his father quickly slip away from the effects of the bee sting, an unexpected moment that changes everything for the family. Violet, about to give birth to their sixth child Hyacinth, obviously takes the loss hard, and Anthony grows up in an instant as the new man of the house.

It’s one of the most heartbreaking moments of season 2 for multiple reasons, including the fact that it completely shifts the trajectory of Anthony’s life and changes his decision-making process for the future. The scene reveals so much about Anthony and how he sees the world.

When Kate later gets stung by a bee on her chest, Anthony has a panic attack, fearing that he will again lose someone he loves to a bee sting. She’s careful with him and understanding of his panic, and it’s heartwarming to see her hold his feelings so gently.

From a young age, Anthony receives his strength, insecurity, and resolve in the wake of his father’s death. The scene with his father, and then with Kate, provides new insight into why he is the way he is and the trauma that still lives inside him. Thankfully, Kate helps make it less lonely.
