Kid Cudi to direct, star and write feature film Teddy for Netflix

Scott Mescudi, or Kid Cudi as he’s more popularly known, will soon make his feature directorial debut at Netflix with the film Teddy. He also wrote the script and will star in the project. On Tuesday, the actor shared a social media post to announce the news and share with his fans that Teddy is a project he is incredibly passionate about since he has been working on it since 2013.

According to his post, the movie will be like the cinematic version of his 2009 song “Pursuit of Happiness,” except he also “added a lot of [his] own personal struggles and experiences in it, so this film is very close to [his] heart.”

Everything we know about Kid Cudi’s upcoming film Teddy

Teddy will share several producers with the Netflix film The Harder They Fall, including Jeymes Samuel, James Lassiter, Shawn “Jay Z” Carter, Mad Solar and Bron. The musician also gave a shoutout to Tendo Nagenda, the Netflix vice president of original film, “for seeing the vision.”

It makes sense that Mescudi would team up with the team behind The Harder They Fall as he contributed to the Western with his song “Guns Go Bang.” The movie’s music was heavily praised, even winning several awards. Additionally, Mescudi appeared in the Netflix movie Don’t Look Up, which is currently in Best Picture contention at the 94th Academy Awards. He contributed to that film’s soundtrack as well, collaborating with Ariana Grande on the song “Just Look Up.”

Besides the upcoming Netflix movie, you can also catch Kid Cudi in the horror film X directed by Ti West, where he stars alongside Martin Henderson, Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow and Owen Campbell.

It’s too early to estimate when Teddy might be released on the streaming service. I imagine the movie will not come out until 2023 at the earliest.
